When it comes to a job search, it’s critical to think about the big three: resumes, interviews and networking. Terry Black, Director of Human Resources at CDO Technologies offers these critical tips for job seekers:

Resumes: Hit them hard in the first paragraph – something that will catch their eye and make them stop and want to read the rest of it. Recruiters today have to vet hundreds of resumes. If they don’t see something interesting in the first few lines, they won’t read any further.

Interviews: Arrive 10 minutes early, overdress rather than underdress, and make certain you’ve done your homework on the company you’re interviewing with. Express interest in something you’ve heard about them and ask for more information about it. They want to know you’re interested in them, because they’re already interested in you, or else you wouldn’t be there.

Networking: Maintain your network through having lunch with business acquaintances. Connect with those folks, endorse them through the system and have them endorse you. You never know what contact will be critical to the next step of your career ladder.
