Temperatures might be hovering around 20 degrees right now in King of Prussia, Pa., but that doesn’t mean you have to stay inside. Whether you’re a history buff or like to do some retail therapy, King of Prussia, Pa. has a lot to offer.

Pennsylvania was my home state for over twenty years. I forget how large the state is until well meaning acquaintances wonder if Pittsburgh is close to Philadelphia. If 6 or so hours are what you consider close, then yes, they are close to one another. For those of you wondering where in the world King of Prussia is located, it is not close to Pittsburgh; however, Philadelphia is your next door neighbor.

King of Prussia = New Cleared Job Opportunities

King of Prussia may seem like an unlikely place to look for a cleared position, but with great companies like Lockheed Martin in the area, there are actually hundreds of openings for cleared professionals.

Here are my top four reasons to consider relocating to King of Prussia, Pa.:

1. Quality of Living

While some complain about commute times, given all the recent expansion and development, King of Prussia averages 24 minutes. That’s better than many other areas (particularly that other cleared job hotbed, Washington, D.C.) and it is right on par with the national average, which is 25 minutes.

Speaking of expansion and development, King of Prussia is making a push to develop new and overhaul the old, making the best use of what is already there. The goal is to set up more housing that encourages more community and less suburbia. Because of the area’s successful retailers, King of Prussia can afford to add on extras, like a pricey community center, without raising taxes.

The area boasts of a lower unemployment rate (4.3%) than the rest of the country, a median home cost around $260,000, median household income over $73,000, and lower crime rate than the rest of the state.

2. Convenient Location

Location is everything. Philadelphia is about 20 miles away. Being close to a large city helps ensure that the quality of living pros don’t disappear over time. Residents don’t have to travel too far to get to an international airport, historic sites, or sporting/arts events.

King of Prussia is also right at the intersection of four major PA highways: PA turnpike, I-76, Route 202, and Route 422. The location makes the area convenient to get to, and helps ensure continued traffic and visibility. Easy access to major highways also simplifies trips to client sites.

3. Retail Mecca

Maybe shopping isn’t your thing. But if it is, the King of Prussia Mall is the place to be. In terms of space, the mall is the largest in the US. More expansion is planned just around the corner at the Village of Valley Forge. Ample retail also means better grocery stores, like Wegmans. And where you find retail locations, inevitably, you will find great restaurants too. So, even if you don’t like to engage in the occasional (or frequent) retail therapy, there are many benefits to living in a great retail area.

4. American History Paradise

King of Prussia residents don’t have to go too far to visit historical sites. In fact, the area itself originated when the King of Prussia Inn was constructed in 1719. General George Washington visited the inn in 1777. Due to the expansion of Rt 202, the inn was preserved and moved to a new site in 2000.

Valley Forge National Historic Park is right next door to the King of Prussia area. Of course, Philadelphia also boasts of many historical sites. Other sites, like Lancaster, Pa. or Gettysburg, Pa are within two hours of the area.

The King of Prussia area has much to offer. With the addition of the mall in 1960, the area has grown continuously and doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. And with new job listings ready to be filled today, it’s an excellent place for cleared engineers to consider.
