In honor of Women’s History Month ClearanceJobs reached out to female recruiters who are active on the Cleared Network. Human Resources has traditionally been an industry dominated by women, and that extends into recruiting. While more and more men are pursuing excellent careers as recruiters and sourcers, recruiting continues to be an arena where women are stand-outs. In contrast, the defense industry remains dominated by men. How are female recruiters in the cleared space finding success?

Denise Magruder, Technical Recruiting and Business Development Manager for Flash Technology Group

She’s looking for:

Software Developers with a TS/SCI Clearance and Full Scope Polygraph

Her biggest recruiting challenge?

Finding qualified candidates with active full scope polygraphs. There is a very limited pool and the polygraph process takes too long to wait for candidates to process for openings that are immediate.

On hiring women in IT Roles:

I am looking for the most qualified candidate, so I don’t have any particular strategies for targeting female candidates. In the IT field, it seems there are more men than women at this time in the pool of candidates. The female candidates that I have hired, have always done an excellent job and moved on to better opportunities.

Why She Enjoys Recruiting:

One of my first positions in a corporate setting was as an Account Manager which entailed full cycle recruiting as a primary responsibility. It was very rewarding to help people find employment. The work is fast paced and each day is different. As my career progressed into management, recruiting, and training how to recruit, was always a function of my roles. So, as my career grew and my skills developed, recruiting was always a part of what I did, and helped me to succeed in other areas of management and sales. Besides the gratification of finding people career opportunities, I truly enjoy the aspect of talking to different people every day, getting to know them and helping them to identify where they may be a good fit. The counseling and coaching aspects of the position are rewarding, as well.
