The Base Realignment and Closure program (BRAC) will bring 8,100 civilian and contractor positions to Aberdeen Proving Ground, plus an expected 7,500 to 10,000 indirect jobs off post. Fort Meade is expecting 5,400 military, civilian Defense Department and contractor employees on post. Only about 150 jobs have made the move so far.

About 140 defense contracting firms are connected to the relocation of the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) operation from Fort Monmouth, NJ.

The areas around Fort Meade and Aberdeen Proving Ground get good marks for housing, schools, and capacity for commercial development. Transportation is another story.
