One of the men who was in charge of security for U.S. diplomats in Libya says he feared for their safety (VIDEO) long before the attack last month on the consulate in Benghazi. Four Americans were killed in the attacks on the Libyan consulate, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Amid a growing diplomatic mandate after the revolution and increased concerns about an “uncertain and unstable” security environment, the U.S. Embassy staff in Libya requested a 16-member Special Operations “security support team” remain in the country for several months beyond the end of its scheduled departure in August, calling its work “essential,” according to a State Department memo obtained by CNN Security Clearance. The concerned military security officer and Army green beret, Lt. Colonel Andrew Wood, will tell his story to Congress on Wednesday.

CONTRACT WATCH

The U.S. Army awarded ITT Exelis a $43 million logistics support services contract. The contract has one base year, two option years and one six-month option. The work includes maintenance operations, supply services and transportation, and will take place at the Fort Rucker Logistics Readiness Center in Alabama.

The Defense Information Systems Agency made awards to Verizon and AT&T, worth just under $900,000 for Apple’s iPads and iPhones and Samsung’s tablets, expanding the agency’s mobile project by 1,150 devices. DISA said these three devices met its security requirements.
