Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps!

Director David Petraeus, formerly Obama’s choice to lead the Central Intelligence Agency well into his second term, has resigned. Upon tendering his resignation to President Obama, Petraeus has seemed to cause more problems than solve, leaving a trail of shameless political maneuvering and questions of, among other things, journalistic integrity in his wake.

Especially as his regisnation comes just prior to his scheduled testimony before congress on the attack. Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein has already said she will not ask Petraeus to appear before the committee.

The Pentagon is moving rather aggressively to put in place measures to prevent special operations forces from disclosing any details about any of their missionsets.

The U.S. military has come under sharp criticism over a drug-smuggling ring that imported at least one shipment of synthetic marijuana through the military mail system, with South Korean politicians suggesting checks of packages were too lax.

CONTRACT WATCH

Northrop Grumman named Karen Campbell vice president of the Marine Systems business unit. Northrop Grumman is hiring Joint Intelligence Analysts and Joint Communications Plans Analysts.

CACI won a $53 million contract to continue helping Naval Sea Systems Command offices procure and sustain equipment. The award has a six-month base period and two six-month options. CACI will assist the Expeditionary Warfare and Maritime Surveillance Program Offices in NAVSEA.
