Pentagon officials have predicted that civilian furloughs will begin within the Defense Department on April 26.

The vast majority of civilian workers in DOD will begin to receive notifications as soon as next week that they should expect to be furloughed for 22 days this year as a result of sequestration. Once DOD notifies employees that they’re targeted for furlough, they will have one week to initiate an appeal process through the Merit System Protection Board.
