ON THE FIGHT

A US military cargo aircraft crashed in Kyrgyzstan, a major hub for US and NATO operations in Afghanistan.

Unnamed US officials have leaked to CNN that they believe attackers involved in the deadly attack on the diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya were directly tied to al-Qaeda.

The Department of State has created two new offices — Iraq Strategic Partnership Office and the Pakistan and Afghanistan Support Office — even though it’s under the barrel of sequestration and assorted other budgetary constraints.  Secretary Kerry, it seems, is the best thing to happen to the Department of State in a long time.

CONTRACT WATCH

The Navy has renewed a contract providing support to Souda Bay, the US Navy’s contingency operating location in the Mediterranean. Crete was a critical jumping-off point for the NATO intervention in Libya in 2011.

The Department of State is soliciting contractors to provide security services to the diplomatic presence in the Hague. Additionally, State wants a corrections advisor to help guide the government of El Salvador through corrections issues.

The Pentagon has awarded a contract to the University of North Texas to help aggregate and exploit DNA.

US Special Operations Command is still very interested in a developing an Internally Transportable Vehicle — a hybrid Humvee and dune buggy, preferably with armor, that’ll fit inside an Osprey.
