There are many contracting companies out there that have open positions, too many to list here without boring you to tears. While most companies are great and offer good compensation and benefits packages, it can still leave you wanting. This is where big name IT vendors separate themselves from other companies. Vendors offer not just amazing compensation packages and benefits, they also offer what other companies cannot: a behind the scenes look at what makes their product(s) click. Getting an opportunity to spend a week with the development team of their flagship app is a priceless opportunity. These are opportunities that can help to define your career path. Here are some of the best big name vendors that offer amazing cleared opportunities, which extend far beyond the 9 to 5 work week.

cleared careers at Google

Who can argue with Google making this list? They top “Best Company to Work For” lists year after year. Here is a quick snippet from Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list in which Google was first for six years in a row:

The $75 billion tech titan is famous for luxe perks like free gourmet food, haircuts, and laundry services, of course. But it also takes a rigorous analytical approach to morale. It boosted its parental-leave policies, for example, after finding that mothers were leaving at higher rates—the result was a 50% reduction in attrition for working moms. And then there’s the culture: Town halls held by black Googlers and allies, support for transgender workers, and unconscious-bias workshops (already attended by more than 70% of staff) help foster what employees say is a “safe and inclusive” workplace at this hive of high performers.

Some of the key perks to working for Google include an onsite fitness center, telecommuting, compressed work weeks, onsite medical care facility and onsite childcare.  That being said, you might miss out on some of these perks simply due to the nature of cleared work, especially in the customer space. Google’s FedRamp approved Google Cloud allows for government agencies to have scalable cloud storage and compute while maintaining the security requirements in place to protect national security.  Having the opportunity to work with Google on government cloud solutions such as Google Cloud gives you an opportunity to be on the cutting edge of cloud technology in the government space.

cleared careers at VMware

Virtualization changed the way we do IT. It has been one of the most transformation technology to come along in the history of technology. The ability to condense power, space and cooling for physical server infrastructures has saved government agencies billions of dollars over the last 15 years. VMware’s Professional Services Organization (PSO) has a strong representation in government spaces. There are many positions that embed you, as the PSO consultant, with the customer for a given period of time. Other cleared PSO positions will send you around the nation working for different Department of Defense installments, government agencies and some state and local government posts as well. VMware trains its PSO staff so that they are educated to carry out the tasks customers require. In some situations, they will send you to headquarters in Palo Alto for a week of training with the product development team in order to get a deeper dive on a specific feature set or product.

cleared careers at Amazon

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has become a giant in the government space for cloud storage and compute offerings. AWS supports mission critical workloads such as enterprise applications, high performance computing, big data and storage/disaster recovery. AWS seems to always be hiring for great positions, both in the uncleared and cleared field. For cleared individuals, there are many opportunities at several different locations. The Washington metro alone is home to a burgeoning number of positions, thanks to the decision to locate HQ2 in Arlington’s Crystal City neighborhood. Amazon also has a strong commitment to supporting current and former active duty veterans. In fact, Amazon has committed to hiring 25,000 military veterans and spouses, with the bulk of them starting before 2021. Joining Amazon could be a great opportunity to grow with an industry leader and gain hands on experience in and out of the cleared community.

Find the Right Company for You

Regardless of what the perks are, or the positions, you need to find the right position for you. Amazon, VMware and Google are just a few major vendors that offer amazing positions with great benefits and opportunities, however, none of it matters if you do not enjoy going to work every day. There are many other big name vendors such as Nutanix, Dell, Microsoft, NetApp and others that can help grow your career. Do your homework and make an educated decision.
