Former Army Public Affairs Officer and ClearanceJobs news site contributor, Aaron Knowles, has decided to write a book on Artifical Intelligence (AI). But not on the usual AI mantra. His book highlights the good tools, the scary ones that are a backdoor for China to surveil your phone data, and when to ethically implement AI, and maybe where to hold off.
He joins me on the podcast to dish about his inspirations behind the book after he transitioned from the U.S. Army, what tactical tips readers can take away, and if AI actually wrote some of the book itself.
Knowles has worked in content creation, through ClearanceJobs.com news and also long form live video content as a user on our platform. He also streams on Twitch so has naturally been exposed to tools like Canva’s magic media and magic write, to ChatGPT, to video AI generators with avatars, and more. But Knowles says that are times when it makes more ethical sense to invest in local talent – so you’re producing an authentic brand and one that is not so easily seen as AI.
There are obviously some AI tools that Americans should avoid, no matter the industry. Some prominent AI tools owned by Chinese companies include: DeepSeek (a generative AI model causing recent stir due to its potential to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT), Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen (Qwen), Baidu’s Ernie Bot, SenseTime’s SenseChat, and products from companies like iFlytek, Cloudwalk, and DJI which are known for facial recognition, sound recognition, and drone technologies respectively; all considered major players in China’s AI landscape.
The Algorithmic Frontier serves as a vital resource for content creators, social media managers, and professional communicators navigating the fast-changing digital environment. This book effectively connects creativity with technology, showcasing how AI is transforming the realm of social media and content production. Filled with actionable insights, practical guidance, and forward-thinking strategies, it equips readers to utilize AI successfully while remaining true to their authenticity and ethics.
