The Air Force will begin to operate the first of twenty-four Hawker Beechcraft (Wichita, Kansas-based) twin-propeller planes in Afghanistan this month. The planes were modified by L-3 Communications (Greenville, Texas facility) to support ground troops with video, still images and eavesdropping. The acquisition is part of the overall strategy to beef up the number of manned and unmanned aircraft providing intelligence to ground troops.
Congress this year approved $950 million to buy as many as 37 aircraft from Wichita, Kansas-based Hawker Beechcraft Corp. They are modified at L-3 Communication’s Greenville, Texas facility. Read more.
