“The woman is shouting Help me Allah while these cowards who are there to kill her is also shouting that Allah is Great!” is the caption that former first-female mayor in Afghanistan, Zarifa Ghafari, posted on a current vile video. The video (for those able to watch it ) shows a woman facing Taliban injustice. She is laying on the ground while a crowd viciously stones her with baseball-sized rocks. This is one of the many daily human rights violations facing Afghans today.
Barbaric Injustice in the Streets of Afghanistan
The Taliban-Haqqani terrorist network continues to try to gain legitimacy from other nations and multi-national organizations as the Afghan people suffer. Another video this week showed a series of vehicles passing down a road on a busy street. On the backs of each truck was a human being hung by their neck swinging and swaying with the movement of the truck.
Beyond the unsanctioned murders and barbaric (in)justice being handed out by the Taliban regime, there are other crimes and human rights violations occurring. The Taliban continue to withhold education from the majority of girls in the country despite a few communities reopening their schools. The Taliban continue to track down former soldiers and eject them from their homes or torture and kill them. Forced displacement of minority groups such as those of Hazara ancestry is also occurring.
China and Pakistan Boycott Summit in India
This week in India, national security advisors from a few Asian nations gathered to discuss their paths forward in dealing with the Pakistani-backed terrorist regime in Kabul. New Delhi played host to leaders from Russia, Iran, India, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The focus of these nations as described to the press was to create “collective cooperation against the menace of radicalization, extremism, separatism and drug trafficking in the region.” This focus is a short precise description of the culture and values of the Taliban-Haqqani network. It is not surprising the nation that directly supports the Taliban-Haqqani terror network, Pakistan, and the nation that funds Pakistan and seeks to exploit the Taliban regime to gain access to Afghan resources, China, have boycotted the summit in India.
Daily Life Struggles Increase
As hospitals like the one in Uruzgan begin to close their doors due to a lack of doctors and medicines the international community must act more quickly. Humanitarians are predicting a major food crisis and increases in starvation, especially for children, this winter. While the situation in the nation deteriorates, more and more Afghans are trying to escape via air and land routes. This situation is leading to more Taliban violence as they are beating people who attempt to apply for a passport.
It is unclear how the world plans to hold the Taliban-Haqqani regime accountable for their past war crimes and current human rights violations. Right now, their major leverage points seem to be withholding access to international financial tools and withholding recognition of the Taliban regime as a legitimate government. It is becoming clearer that the Taliban are willing to let Afghans die this winter instead of changing their culture to meet any international standards.
