The latest episode of the Security Clearance Careers Podcast, ClearedCast, features Tom Tice, President & CEO of Warrior Strong, a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans and their families heal and thrive through free health and wellness programs. Speaking with host Phoebe Wells, Tice explains how Warrior Strong meets people where they are—offering yoga, meditation, breathwork, fitness classes, aquatic therapy, and nutrition seminars both in person and virtually.
Born from a desire to give back after 9/11, Tice first pitched the concept in 2016 and formally founded Warrior Strong in 2017. Early on, the team encountered skepticism around practices like yoga and meditation within the veteran community. Nearly a decade later, that stigma has eased, and participation continues to grow—thanks in part to the organization’s emphasis on camaraderie, low barriers to entry, and accessible, no-cost programming.
Tice underscores what makes Warrior Strong different: members aren’t handed merchandise or one-time perks; they’re invited to show up and invest in their own well-being alongside peers who understand their experiences. That community often becomes a bridge to additional resources, with veterans encouraging one another to seek professional support—including the VA—and to keep going until they find what works.
Eligibility is intentionally broad: veterans of all eras, military spouses and family members, and first responders (including police officers, firefighters, and nurses) are welcome. Participants can join locally or log in from home, still benefiting from a live, supportive environment that reduces isolation and strengthens resilience.
Listeners interested in Warrior Strong can download the mobile app in the Apple and Google stores, visit the organization’s website, and connect on social media.
