The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center is warning frequent travelers to beware their hotel’s internet service. Malicious cyberattacks are targeting hotel internet users via a pop-up that appears while they attempt to connect to the hotel’s internet connection. The pop-up window informs users that an update needs to be installed on their computer, but it instead installs malicious software.

Individuals should be vigilant anytime they connect to an outside internet service provider, especially while traveling, and should always be cautious toward clicking links, installing programs, or performing updates. If updates must be performed while traveling, visit the software vendor’s website to install the necessary program.
