A reader asks:
I recently applied for a job in which I need a Top Secret clearance. I’ve been asked for a second interview, but I’m not sure if I should pursue this position due to the fact that I have a state tax lien on my credit. I have setup a plan and have been making payments. I have one closed credit card account that I make payments on and that’s it, I have absolutely no debt. Will my back tax issue and closed cc acct be the deterrent for me being cleared?
William H. Henderson, FEDCAS says:
I think you have a reasonable chance of success. You’ve done the right things. I’ve successfully helped people with greater financial problems than yours.
The critical elements are that the individual has both established a payment plan on the tax lien as well as taking reasonable steps on the credit card debt. Financial issues can be mitigated provided the individual takes the appropriate steps.
