It’s hard enough for recruiters to sift through candidates to find the perfect fit. In the national security space, you don’t just have to be concerned with skills and qualifications, but integrity and criminal history, as well. The focus on background checks is high post-Snowden, but it is a balancing act when decisions based on background checks can open up an employer to more liability. A recent article outlines Equal Opportunity Employment guidelines which include limitations on limiting hiring based solely on a criminal record or credit score. The solution? Hire already cleared candidates.

One group that might not have a criminal history or bad credit but sure has its share of employment challenges – recent college grads. A recent AP survey found that over 50 percent of college grads are unemployed or working in jobs that don’t require the degree that just likely landed them into a pile of debt. But just like real estate is all about the right location, better employment prospects are all about picking the right degree. The survey found that one-third of grads are picking poorly when it comes to college majors, choosing degrees that lack good job prospects to begin with.
