If you hold or held a security clearance in the past, did you know there is an individual associated with your agency or office who’s role is to manage the cleared personnel of that facility? The Cognizant Security Authority, or CSA, interprets security policy and passes guidance across an agency, or onto contractor facilities.

For defense contractors, a facility security officer, or FSO is responsible for managing the office’s security cleared personnel. If you’re currently employed and have questions about your security clearance, those are the individuals you need to reach out to – the CSA or FSO with your agency or organization. If you’ve left employment, you can still reach out to the FSO or CSA with your agency or organization with questions. The CSA or FSO of your organization can tell you when your last investigation was, if your clearance is active, and if there are any flags associated with your security clearance.
