If you’ve been in the government contracting field for a while, you’re familiar with corporate mergers. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that successfully uniting two separate organizations is a challenging task.

But mergers are also reasons for optimism and catalysts for positive organizational change. They can shake up the established order, innovate, and offer new opportunities. This has been the case with CSRA’s integration with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT). While both companies were industry leaders by themselves, their integration puts them – and their career opportunities – in a whole new league.

“It’s made us not only larger, but stronger, and a frontrunner in the industry,” explains Nisa McCarter Moore, Vice President of Supply Chain Management. “The sky is the limit. There’s no opportunity that we can’t go after now.”

Joyce Jenkins-Harden, Operations Director of DISA and Enterprise Services, Defense Division has been a part of a number of integrations over her career. But even in her varied experience, the integration of GDIT and CSRA is something unique. “The integration between GDIT and CSRA now offers up capabilities that industry has not seen before. So we have thousands of employees with certifications and education and, most importantly, experience.”

With Integration Comes New Opportunities

As exciting as this merger is for the industry and for the government clients GDIT serves, it offers equally exciting perks for current and prospective employees.

“One of the strongest aspects of the merger between CSRA and GDIT is the mobility aspect,” Explains Cheryl Garrison, Vice President of Talent Mobility. “It has provided tremendous opportunity, not only for our existing employees, but for potential employees as they look at opportunities across the business…There were opportunities before, but now they’re triple fold.”

The integration has also brought ideas and capabilities from both organizations and created something new to better serve its government customers. As Garrison puts it, “GDIT values diversity, not only in thinking, but in how we build our teams. We want to have the strength and the power of those experiences shared as we innovate for our customers.”

Part of this diversity and innovation includes the Centers for Excellence, which allow employees to further their educations and gain certifications in fields such as cloud computing and cybersecurity.

“One of the great things with the integration of GDIT and CSRA has been the Centers of Excellence,” Says Joe Boye, Practice Lead, Intelligence and Homeland Security Division. “It brought a lot of capabilities that were already in play within CSRA and allowed us to leverage those capabilities to expand even more as a larger organization.”
