It’s been a long and snowy week in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. Instead of COVID-19 vaccine mandate talk, snow dominated the conversations and headlines – except for yesterday. This past week, the federal government closed its offices two days, and they had a three-hour delay on another day. For those who are not working remotely on the regular, that leaves two normal workdays this week. Of course, leadership may have previously balked at making telework the new norm, but this week, they found the addition to be rather beneficial. Real life events have a way of course correcting habits sometimes. Although on-site work is the norm in national security, perhaps 2022 will be the year that leadership goes all in on the hybrid schedule or more flexible options. Of course, contractors who work on government sites previously struggled with where to charge a snow day. So switching to telework saves their leave hours on their timesheet.
