The federal government is the largest employer in the United States, so government employees may feel like they’re unimportant or overlooked. But Michael Egbert, Bomb-Making Materials Awareness Program (BMAP) Operations Chief at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), explains that isn’t the case at all, especially at CISA.

CISA recognizes its employees’ successes in tangible ways by rewarding employees for jobs well done. “CISA celebrates success, not just with a pat on the back, but with financial incentives, cash awards, and pay increases,” said Egbert.

And financial incentives are only one of the many ways CISA takes care of its employees. “I think the best thing that CISA is that they advocate for their people and their programs. Through that advocation, you want to work for those leaders because they are advocating for you. They want to make your program better and make you better.”

Many of CISA’s employees are military veterans and law enforcement professionals who are shifting into different roles at CISA. Even though their employer changed, CISA’s programs make sure their employees still receive all the benefits they’re entitled to.

“CISA has a Veteran Workforce Group, which I was automatically enrolled in since I am a veteran,” Egbert explained. “They push out information from the VA such as health benefits, VA education benefits, and anything to do with veterans and helping veterans.”

CISA employees can also bring their savings and 401(k) programs from the military, allowing a smooth transition and ensuring they receive their full benefits. Veterans accustomed to the benefits the military offers won’t be disappointed when they transition to CISA. “CISA offers a great retirement plan, and they offer great benefits,” said Egbert. “There’s nothing not to like about being a veteran coming to work for CISA.”
