Forbes just announced their top 200 veteran employers, with defense contractors locking in 30% of the top 10 spots. It makes sense to leave one mission-driven career for another one. Forbes built the list, based on a survey of over 7,000 U.S. veterans, looking for company traits that showed career development, leadership opportunities, and recruitment of veterans.

“Today, companies want to hire veterans. Not only is there regulatory benefit given government initiatives like tax breaks and salary subsidies, veterans are seen as an exceptional class of people,” says Jim Craig, a professor of Sociology at the University of Missouri–St. Louis and a former lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army.

Defense contractors or government agencies in the top 25 on the list are NASA, Leidos, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, SpaceX, EPA, and CACI.
