Over a potential seven-year period, the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract will facilitate crucial research and development services for the NGA’s Research and Development Directorate. Layoffs: lockheed Martin

According to Reuters, Lockheed Martin has announced plans to cut 1% of its workforce throughout the year as part of a cost-cutting initiative to enhance operational efficiency. The reduction will affect various positions across the company’s global operations, with measures such as hiring freezes and voluntary separations being implemented. Lockheed Martin, based in Maryland and employing 122,000 individuals worldwide, aims to achieve cost reduction through supply chain optimization, factory productivity, and its 1LMX-driven efficiency program. Despite heightened demand for defense products amid global tensions, the company faces challenges from supply chain disruptions in its aeronautics segment, leading to a forecasted 2024 profit below Wall Street expectations.


Hiring: RTX

Raytheon Missile Systems, a subsidiary of Raytheon Co., has secured a $20 million Navy contract with potential positive implications for job creation, particularly at its West Chester facility. The contract involves MK698 Block Two upgrades and test equipment spare parts in support of fiscal 2021-2023 Evolved SeaSparrow Missile Block Two full rate production requirements. The missile system is designed to intercept anti-ship cruise missiles. While work will be distributed across various Raytheon locations, the West Chester facility has secured 2% of the contract, emphasizing the potential for increased defense work and local job opportunities in the region.
