Navigating Military Transition: Military Veterans Share Insights on FTI’s SkillBridge Program

Making the jump from military life to the civilian world can be tricky, particularly when it comes to finding a career path. Enter: SkillBridge. This DOD program allows transitioning military members the opportunity to work at an approved DOD partner during the last 180 days of service.

Danny Vera and Kevin McCann joined us on the latest episode of the Security Clearance Careers Podcast, ClearedCast to share their experiences working as SkillBridge interns at FTI.

FTI helps its DoD customers with technology-enabled solutions and data analytics to help them make the best decisions possible for their missions. Kevin, a former Air Force C-17 pilot, described his desire to understand how the Air Force strategizes. He spent his internship with FTI’s Wargaming team. “I got a much better understanding of how it all worked,” Kevin explains, “and also learned that it would be something that I’d like to do.” Kevin has since been hired as a full-time analyst at FTI.

Meanwhile, Danny was a Marine Corps radio operator for a decade before becoming a recruiter. At FTI, he also works as a recruiter. While making that switch within the military was a learning curve, it was a big leap transitioning to recruiting in the civilian world. “I realized that when I decided to get out, I had no experience in the job-hunting process,” Danny said. “So, I decided to look for SkillBridge opportunities to gain that knowledge and experience so I wouldn’t basically have to find a career overnight.”

In the episode, both veterans shared their journey at FTI, highlighting the immersive experiences that shaped their transition. When asked about selecting FTI for their SkillBridge opportunities, both Danny and Kevin highlight the company’s culture and mission alignment.
