Each year, as service members transition from military duty to civilian life, one of the most critical and challenging aspects they face is forging a new career path. Recognizing this need, Google hosts Veterans Career Week, an annual initiative aimed at empowering veterans, military spouses, and transitioning service members with the tools, training, and opportunities they need to thrive in the tech-driven economy.

Google Public Sector joins the podcast to discuss Google Veterans Career Week. Mike Benedosso, global leader of Google’s Veterans Network (VetNet), tells us more about his own transition, tips for veterans looking for a job at Google, and why he has stayed for nine years supporting Google’s Brand Marketing (Brand Social): Influencer Marketing as a Strategy Leader. Google is hosting its 5th Annual Google Veterans Career Week, a free, virtual three-day event (June 10-12) offering veterans, military spouses/partners, and service members tools, support, and advice to advance their civilian careers. The week includes functional and industry roundtables, an exclusive fireside chat, and skill-building sessions – all designed to provide valuable networking, learning, and tactical career advice. The event is open to anyone supporting the military community and so tune in to this sneak peek.

Veterans Career Week is more than a series of events—it’s a commitment to inclusivity and support. Hosted by Google’s VetNet and supported by a wide range of partners, the week-long program features a robust lineup of workshops, networking events, resume-building sessions, and one-on-one coaching. The goal is to bridge the often daunting gap between military experience and civilian job expectations.

Participants gain access to:

  • Career development workshops tailored to translating military skills into tech and business roles.

  • Panel discussions with Googlers who are veterans, sharing firsthand insights about navigating their own transitions.

  • Technical training sessions, including overviews of Google Career Certificates and other pathways into high-demand fields like cybersecurity, cloud computing, and data analytics.

  • Mentorship opportunities with recruiters and hiring managers from Google and partner companies.

Beyond career prep, Veterans Career Week fosters a strong sense of community. It’s a space where veterans connect with peers who understand the unique challenges of transition, as well as with employers who value their discipline, adaptability, and leadership.

Google’s commitment extends beyond this week, too. With ongoing resources available through the Google for Veterans and Military Families initiative and the Hiring Our Heroes Fellowship Program, the company is investing in long-term support.
