ClearanceJobs’ Ed Ledford writes “It was a surprising Judy-Bloom moment for GOP nominee Donald Trump: “Russia, if you’re listening [they probably are], I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing.” Trump was referring to the lost State Department emails of DNC nominee Hillary Clinton. Former CIA Director Leon Panetta didn’t see the humor in it. Panetta told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that Trump was “in fact, asking the Russians to engage in American politics.” Perhaps. Perhaps just another moment of indiscretion.”
And if current events aren’t enough to get you interested in Soviet era, earlier this summer the CIA also announced it would be releasing the details of previously undisclosed Cold War actions.
“CIA consistently reviews both specific documents and compiled volumes in a timely manner, and in 2015 it agreed to acknowledge four covert actions that will be documented in future volumes,” the Advisory Committee on Historical Diplomatic Documentation stated in a report.
Military actions in Syria have only complicated US/Russia relations. While the Cold War seems long over, the relationship between Russia and the United States is certainly strained. A power play may be in the works, if the US decides to take on a bigger role in Syria.
