Space System Command, a field command under U.S. Space Force, plays an important role in national defense. Col. Rob Westover, Director of Financial Management and Comptroller of the command, explained some challenges the command is facing and the type of people they’re searching for to help face these challenges.
“U.S. Space Force is working on a lot of challenges right now, but instead of calling them challenges, I’ll call them opportunities,” said Col. Westover. “We’re not only working with commercial companies but also continuing coordination with our U.S. allies and partners who have been an integral part of building the Space Force infrastructure.”
These opportunities mean that Space Force and Space Systems Command are making a huge hiring push right now. “The reason we’re doing that is because we need the most talented, energetic candidates that are out there,” explained Col. Westover. “Our command is looking to attract individuals who want to make a difference and be part of a great working environment, be a part of a team, and be connected to our mission, which is to provide space capabilities to our joint warfighters.”
Since the U.S. Space Force is still relatively new, team members have a unique opportunity to shape the future of the service. The same is true for Space Systems Command team members. Both are working to make their U.S. space assets more resilient so they’re ready for future threats, and Space Force is ready to hire certain types of people to join this mission.
“We’re looking for team members who are ready to collaborate by maximizing the space capabilities that we already have today, and bringing new and emerging space capabilities online as fast as possible,” said Col. Westover.
