“Every Marine is a rifleman” remains the core doctrine of the United States Marine Corps, yet last week the service announced it would offer a recruiting bonus to individuals seeking careers in cyber, crypto (cryptology), and electronics-maintenance fields.
In a new messaging post earlier this month, the USMC announced that its Enlistment Bonus Program (EBP) “will be continually refined to enable the Marine Corps to remain competitive in the war for talent. The EBP facilitates the market expansion required to achieve annual shipping goals, skill channeling of talent into Force Design priorities, and to support service-level efforts to increase return on personnel investment. Bonuses may be adjusted during the FY as recruiting environment conditions require.”
The incentives are set to take effect on October 1, the start of fiscal year 2027 (FY27), as part of the FY27 Enlistment Option Program (EOP) and the Enlistment Bonus Program (EBP). The Program Enlisted For (PEF) will include incentives of up to $15,000 for those in the electronic maintenance, cyber, or crypto operations specialties. In addition, the USMC is offering a $5,000 or $10,000 shipping bonus, plus up to $15,000 for those who add two years to their enlistment or $7,000 for a one-year “targeted investment bonus.”
The service noted that “Shipping bonuses are not associated with a particular PEF and can be applied to any PEF.”
The FY27 structure will include 31 specialties, including diverse categories such as aircrew rescue and firefighting, aviation support systems and ordnance, accounting and legal, vehicle mechanic, information and communication technology, machinist, and even musician.
The program will remain in effect throughout FY27, which ends on September 30, 2027.
See the World And Get a Bonus With the U.S. Navy
The United States Navy is currently offering active-duty and reserve financial incentives, including enlistment bonuses up to $140,000 for high-demand active-duty fields, notably nuclear field programs; selective retention bonuses ranging from $37,000 to $150,000 for critical roles; and up to $20,000 for Navy Reserve packages.
That includes up to $25,000 for designated active component ratings, and up to $20,000 for the Physical Screening Test (EB-PST) bonus.
Go Army Bonuses
The United States Army is currently offering up to $50,000 for full-time recruits who choose critical, in-demand job specialties; and up to $10,000 for recruits who report to Basic Training within 30 days of enlisting.
In addition, the U.S. Army is offering bonuses to warrant officers with 12 to 14 years of active service, and service members can qualify for a $75,600 bonus on a three-year agreement. Officers with more than 18 years of service are also eligible for higher payouts, ranging from $120,000 (four-year agreement) up to nearly $210,000 for a six-year commitment.
Soar High With the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force
The United States Air Force is still rolling out its FY27 bonuses. Still, it is currently offering up to $40,000 for critical fields including special warfare, cyber, cryptologic, and advanced electronics to recruits who enter the service on a six-year contract and complete required training.
The bonuses are typically paid out after successful completion of basic military training and technical training/arrival at the first permanent duty station.
The United States Space Force is also continuing to invest heavily in its initial entry incentives and has extended its targeted pilot program, offering a $25,000 bonus to incoming enlisted guardians who commit to an eight-year active-duty contract. The incentive is paid out upon the successful completion of technical training and is designed to offset the long pipeline required for specialized operators.
Additional Space Force bonuses are expected to be announced as the service requested $13 million specifically for its initial enlistment bonuses in its proposed FY27 budget.
U.S. Coast Guard Offering Bonuses for Critical Ratings
The United States Coast Guard is now offering maximum stacked enlistment and hiring incentives of up to $75,000 for recruits entering critical or high-demand career fields, which includes up to $60,000 to affiliate with or enlist in a critical specialty, and up to $15,000 based on qualifying college, along with up to $10,000 for “quick-ship” recruits who are available to ship out to basic training quickly.
