Three Job Search Tips

Are you stuck in your job search? Unsure what to do next?

Whether you’re just getting started or just in need of a career kick start, here are three tips to keep in mind.

1. BULLET PROOF YOUR RESUME.

Writing a rock-star resume is still one of the best ways to get noticed by employers. Your resume needs a good title, great keywords, and don’t forget – lead with your most important details.

2. TRANSLATE YOUR SKILLS.

If you’re going from the military or government to the private sector, you have to translate your skills. Don’t assume a recruiter speaks acronym soup. Find equivalent civilian positions that match your military MOS or government job, and list your skills and credentials accordingly.

3. DO YOUR JOB SEARCH HOMEWORK.

The surest way to screw up an interview or application is by failing to research the company you’re applying to. Make sure you know every detail possible about the position you’re applying to. But also research the company. If you know someone who already works there, get in touch. Informational interviews with current coworkers can be a great way to test the waters with a new company, and make a great impression on hiring managers.

Want to impress potential employers and work your way into that dream job? There are no shortcuts to a great job, but these tips can help lead you there.
