A National Agency Check with Local Agency Checks and Credit Check is a background investigation required for access to Confidential or Secret Information. The check includes review of the FBI criminal history repository, a credit check, and a check of local law enforcement agencies.

The scope of local credit and law enforcement checks will only be for the most recent seven and five years, respectively. This investigation is used for contractors or military personnel. Federal employees requiring access to Confidential or Secret Information require an Access National Agency Check and Inquiries. If you’re undergoing any background investigation, the same advice applies – carefully complete any of the required paperwork. Also, request a copy of your credit report before submitting your application – financial considerations remain the number one cause of clearance denial or revocation.
