We hear from cleared candidates every day – how can I get a security clearance job? While we’d like to say it’s simply as easy as posting your profile to our site, it isn’t always that easy. But sometimes it is. A candidate who joined ClearanceJobs.com to be a part of our Army Ten Miler running team recently shared how it (unexpectedly) turned into a life-changing career opportunity:

Katrina is an Army veteran with a Secret security clearance. She’d been working in the private sector and wasn’t necessarily looking to make a move. But once she created a profile she started receiving emails from ClearanceJobs. And she followed the advice she was given.

  1. Upload a resume.
  2. List your skills and certifications.
  3. Keep coming back and refreshing your profile.

Following these three steps aren’t a guarantee you’ll get a job. But there’s certainly a greater chance you’ll be seen by recruiters. And when the timing is right (the right opportunity at the right salary at the right time), your resume will be there, and you’ll be in the running for an opportunity that could change your life.

“I actually didn’t do anything specific on the website,” writes Katrina. “I entered in the information that the profile ask for and I DID submit my resume.  Also, when I got the reminder emails about logging in to refresh my profile, I would.  I was not actively searching for a job so it was amazing that this job opportunity came up!!! It has honestly changed my life!!!!”
