Interested in pursing a cyber security career? With so many IT security positions out there, it may be difficult to know where to start. CenturyLink Federal is a leader in providing federal cyber security solutions. Learn more about how to be a successful cyber security professional at one of the leading security services providers.

“One of the biggest challenges we have right now is hiring the people with the right skill set, and the right clearances that we need for the positions on our contracts,” said Liz Mykietyn, manager, industrial security at CenturyLink.

Three of the biggest hiring needs at CenturyLink today are information security professionals, cyber security professionals and quality assurance professionals. When it comes to what CenturyLink Federal is looking for in cyber professionals, it’s about more than simply knowing IT systems. CenturyLink representatives cited desire and ability to learn as well as the ability to thrive in a team as attributes they’re looking for.

“Our security team is made up of a diverse group of people,” said Mykietyn. “Some have military background, some went to an Ivy League college. Some had neither and they just learned it by starting at 18 and had the opportunity to learn security.”

For engineering manager Jose Martinez, the decision to join the team at CenturyLink Federal came down to the ability to be successful, and join an industry innovator.

“Cyber security is a growing field, and I knew CenturyLink was leaps and bounds above the industry,” said Martinez.
