How Booz Allen and Huntsville grow together

Now more than ever, top talent seeks more than a job from their place of work. Employees want to make a difference and feel connected to their community.

Since its opening in 2003, Booz Allen Huntsville has been a workplace of choice—and a community that makes a difference.

The office’s 175 employees (and counting) play an integral part in building the regional innovation ecosystem, cultivating the next generation of STEM talent, and making a positive impact where they live and work. Read on for highlights.

Building On the Rocket City’s Innovative Roots to Meet Emerging Needs

Booz Allen is rapidly bringing first-of-their-kind capabilities to the field. It starts with assembling the right team with frontline mission experience and collective ingenuity; and placing them in a purpose-built facility in Huntsville.

That’s where Booz Allen’s Innovation Center comes in. It’s a 6,000-square-foot space in Huntsville’s historic, reimagined Stovehouse factory. The Center features state-of-the-art tools like an industrial-sized 3D printer and a Human Performance Think Tank, where teams analyze the biometric feedback of soldiers or agents to improve their performance.

“This facility is part of our continued investment in the city—we’re growing together, and we want to further enable our employees to be key drivers of that growth. They’re building extraordinary solutions and making a difference,” said Distinguished Engineer Gary Pomajevich. He recently joined the Huntsville team as a senior technical leader and engineer after 25 years supporting Booz Allen major intelligence, national security, and law enforcement operations.

Outside of the office, Booz Allen Huntsville is an active participant in building the region’s innovation ecosystem. The firm is a Technology and Innovation Partner for the Catalyst Center for Business and Entrepreneurship and a sponsor of the inaugural Singing River Trail Launch Tank. Modeled after the popular “Shark Tank” reality TV show, Launch Tank is open to aspiring and existing businesses of all kinds from the eight-county region, with the winners receiving up to $20,000 in cash and resources.

Strengthening the STEM Pipeline and Huntsville Community

“Innovation is only one part of Booz Allen’s commitment to Huntsville. “Our story is much bigger as our employees are invested in the success of the community through volunteerism, charitable contributions, and pro bono work,” said Pomajevich.

Such involvement ranges from donations to local food banks in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to initiatives that support local STEM education. For example, the office recently committed $20,000 for students to attend space camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville. In addition, Booz Allen engineers supported the Bob Jones High School MedHacks hack-a-thon where students prototyped solutions for delivering medical care to underprivileged people who do not live near hospitals.

Another example is the Additive Manufacturing Partnership. Here, Auburn University, Booz Allen, and Decatur City Schools partner to develop STEM curriculum focused on additive manufacturing skills and capabilities.

This curriculum began with a pilot program in two junior high schools. Auburn University professors virtually presented 12 weeks of sessions to students, supported by a 3D printer and materials funded by Booz Allen. The overall goal of the program is to support future additive manufacturing workforce demands across the North Alabama region.

“We’re proud to create a place where people can both find meaning in their work and contribute to the greater community around them,” said Huntsville Chief of Staff Emily Jones.
