Job seekers considering Georgia as a future home have plenty to think about. Besides southern hospitality and peaches, Georgia’s low cost of living, humming job market, and warm weather make it an ideal location for cleared workers looking for their next job. If you’re thinking about heading further south for your next job, here’s what you need to know about living and working in Georgia.

Jobs for cleared candidates in Georgia

Georgia has over 100 defense contractors along its coastal region, making it a surprising hub for cleared jobs. Positions with many openings include intelligence and data science. IT hardware, software, and security are also fast growing industries in the state. In fact, across the entire southern region, positions in IT software enjoyed the second-highest paying position for cleared candidates in our recent survey, right behind business sales.

Employers hiring cleared candidates in Georgia

Plenty of DoD contractors call Georgia home, thanks in part to grants from the Georgia Department of Economic Development Center of Innovation from Aerospace. But there are large employers, too. The research arm of the Georgia Institute of Technology, The Georgia Tech Institute, employs over 2,800 people. Big companies like Anduril Industries, Booz Allen, Lockheed Martin, and Northrup Grumman also call Georgia home.

Salary for cleared personnel

The average salary for cleared personnel in the south is $102,202, but Georgia’s average salary comes in at 86,900. While salaries might be lower, they also stretch a lot further. Georgia’s cost of living is the fifth lowest in the United States, making it one of the most economical places to live. Average home prices in July of 2022 were an affordable $319,000, well below the national average. And just like every other state, income varies widely based on security clearance and education.

Why Georgia is perfect for cleared workers

Georgia might not be the first place you imagine when you think of hubs for cleared workers, but it has a high density of cleared personnel, right behind Virginia in the southeast region. Georgia has a lot to offer cleared workers too, including a low cost of living, warm weather almost year-round, and opportunities for growth. Major cities like Atlanta and Columbus offer a vibrant nightlife, museums, and entertainment, while 110 miles of shoreline and two national forests mean outdoor lovers will have plenty of opportunity to explore.
