Applications are open now for Lockheed Martin to invest in the next generation this year. The aerospace company has decided to put almost $8.5 million towards two scholarship programs focused on increasing opportunity and closing the skills gaps that currently exist. They want to get the next generation of science, technology, engineering and mathematic (STEM) professionals ready.

Since 2019, Lockheed Martin has supported nearly 800 students pursuing four-year degrees in engineering or computer science from underrepresented or underserved communities. This year, they want to find up to 200 other qualifying students. Students don’t need to be going for a four-year degree. They also offer a Vocational Scholarship Program for learners pursuing an associate degree, credit-bearing certificates, or other industry-recognized credentials. This program currently supports 450 learners of all ages participating in skills-based training in cutting-edge technology and advanced manufacturing fields.  And in 2023, Lockheed Martin says they will support up to150 more.

Cleared Opportunities

Currently, ClearanceJobs has almost 70,000 jobs posted on the site from over two thousand companies. Almost 1.5 million candidates flock to ClearanceJobs to find work and network within the cleared community. Employers are hiring for all different types of contracts. If you’re looking to make a change in 2023, it’s definitely helpful to make sure your resume is updated. So, take the time to make the tweaks that you need to keep things fresh. But it’s also helpful to look at what jobs get posted the most. If you’re not in those fields, it could be a good season to asses where you are and where you want to be.

While software and systems engineering top the list, other jobs often surface to the top. See if your job field is anywhere near these popular listings. Most importantly, take the time to see if you even want to switch gears at all. Then go about seeing where you meet the requirements already and what gaps you need to fill. This year might be the ticket to a career redirection or overhaul.
