Peer pressure can be a good thing in life. Raytheon Technologies joins Boeing and Amazon, making the move to the D.C. area. Raytheon plans to make its global headquarters in Arlington, VA later this year.
The location increases agility in supporting U.S. government and commercial aerospace customers and serves to reinforce partnerships that will progress innovative technologies to advance the industry. With multiple airports and close proximity to other contractors, the D.C. metro area is convenient for the company’s global customers and employees.
Raytheon has no plans to leave other locations, as they will maintain their presence in the U.S. with their other 600 facilities across 44 states and territories. Each of the company’s four business units — Collins Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon Intelligence & Space and Raytheon Missiles & Defense — currently have operations in Virginia. The new global headquarters office will be in Arlington’s Rosslyn neighborhood alongside the Raytheon Intelligence & Space business.
While Raytheon noted that they didn’t receive any state or municipality financial support to make the move, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin welcomed them with open arms, pledging Virginia support to the defense contractor.
Youngkin said, “With four of the top five major U.S. aerospace and defense leaders now based in Virginia, this decision to headquarter in Arlington demonstrates that the commonwealth is the best destination for the aerospace and defense community.”
While the headquarters are shifting south, Raytheon’s presence will remain in Massachusetts. In fact, the company noted that they are even hiring at the Waltham site. Although the company’s roots began in Massachusetts, it’s clear that they have no plans of abandoning them.
