Military One Source | Spouse Education & Career Opportunities (SECO), is a DoD program that aims to help reduce the military spouse unemployment rate that generally upticks due to military family moves. The program gives spouses free and thorough coaching services to all eligible military spouses.
Many military spouses are cleared due to working on base where their spouse counter-part is stationed. In the past, employers may have been weary to target military spouses as candidates because of likely moves ahead – but customs are changing around this subject especially with more hybrid work available in the DoD.
While military spouses may not be familiar with joining websites like ClearanceJobs (which is touted to those on active duty about to make the military transition), military spouses are actively engaged in groups like SECO and the Military Spouse Employment Partnership.
Recruiters can tap in to this potentially cleared and clearable candidate pool through Skillbridge pilot programs that SECO is hosting.
“Military spouses of currently serving members of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force, to include active, reserve and National Guard components, are invited to apply to the new Military Spouse Career Accelerator Pilot, a competitive multi-year program that provides spouses with paid 12-week fellowships at employers across various industries and locations.
Host employers provide fellows accepted into the program with hands-on professional training and mentoring in the civilian workplace. Those who excel in the program and are a fit with their host company may be invited to join the employer as a direct hire.”
This program is in its early stages and SECO will be adding new information and new host employers over the next few months. Military spouse applications are accepted throughout the year on a rolling basis with new opportunities available on an ongoing basis.
