Relocating to the Washington, D.C. metro for a defense industry job? It’s not just the hub of government, it’s also a city with a great vibe and a lot more to offer than just a good job. While government workers (especially those with children), used to flee the city for the suburbs, a growing number are staying put. And with good reason. Washington, D.C. has more to offer than monuments (and those are pretty impressive).

Take a stroll through the city with D.C.-based photographer Daniel Jemibewon of Verse and Light photography.

“One of the best facts lesser-known by the average DC tourist is that many monuments are better viewed at night. Just about all itinerary-worthy sites are majestically lit at night, devoid of the crowds that obscure clear views during daylight hours, and possess a serene beauty that simply cannot be appreciated at any other time of day.”

"The National Mall is a constant bustle during the summer months, full of families, tour groups, exercise enthusiasts, and plain 'ol sun-seekers. The Mall is even host to 'Screen-on-the-Green', a summer series of family-friendly outdoor movies which run at sundown on a giant pop-up movie screen."

"DC has many monuments and memorials rightly dedicated to Veterans both living and lost. Here, the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial features a burning flame rising out of a dark pool of water; a stark and hauntingly beautiful visualization of the enduring memory of their sacrifice for freedom."

"Chances are you have never seen the concentrations of food trucks that regularly assemble across downtown DC. On a hot summer's weekend, one can barely count the army of rolling kitchens offering fare ranging from South American dishes to the Far East delicacies and everywhere in between. Yum!"

"A line quickly gathers as one of the Easter Market's local farm vendor lowers his prices at the close of business for the day. Many Capitol Hill residents fulfill much of their weekly fresh produce and grocery shopping solely from this neighborhood-Market-turned-tourist-attraction."

"Artist 'Jackson' places delicate, final details on an art piece that will shortly go on sale at his display in DC's Eastern Market. Eastern Market is home to many artists, crafts people, local farmers, and other vendors who sale their wares each weekend to the delight of natives and tourists alike."
