Supporting Complex Defense Missions in Virginia

Powerful things are happening in Dahlgren, Virginia. An hour south of Washington, DC, Booz Allen’s diverse team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers; analytics professionals; and cyber specialists are working with Department of Defense (DoD) clients to conceptualize, develop, and deploy weapon and combat systems, sensor technology, data collection tools, and more. These instruments give combat commanders different escalation of force capabilities and additional defense mechanisms that directly impact the well-being of our warfighters. “Someone is safer as a result of the work we’re doing in Dahlgren,” says Michael Haxton, program manager and account lead for Joint Warfare Analysis Center.

The projects are as exciting as they are future-facing. Thanks to recent wins, the Dahlgren team is playing a key role in refreshing biometric hardware and performing electromagnetic analyses for Warfare Center clients. The biometric hardware technology turns smartphones into collection devices through fingerprint, iris, and facial markers, which allows our clients to run this information against crucial databases. Electromagnetic analyses involve investigating electromagnetic compatibility concerns for DoD systems and resolving instances where interference exists. We’re also providing a Navy client with laser and electro-optical (EO) engineering services support. Our work includes the research, development, testing, and deployment of state-of-the-art laser and EO systems to the fleet and other services. These systems provide non-kinetic engagement options for the DoD.

While the scale of work is grand, the team in Dahlgren is down-to-earth. “We have a small business feel with the benefit of Booz Allen resources,” says Jennie Eustace, information technology lead. James Brenkert, program manager for engineering and science, agrees. “We’re a diversified but cohesive mosaic of individuals from different geographies and different skillsets, and that leads to unique perspectives and a great culture to work in.”

In Dahlgren, you won’t be filling a role—you’ll be taking the next step in your career. “We hire people for a reason,” says Jennie. “We believe in them, and we want to see them grow and flourish.” And while you’re here, you’ll do amazing things. “We’re pushing the boundaries of engineering,” adds Mike. “It’s what keeps people excited about coming to work at Dahlgren every single day.”
