Using passion in problem-solving to make an impact

Every day is different for Solutions Architect, Jorly Metzger. His mission? To help protect our service men and women by ensuring they’re prepared to do their work effectively.

What’s it like to play a highly technical role in Fayetteville, NC? We spoke to Jorly about his desire to make a difference, his talented teammates, and the parental advice that shaped his career path.

1. What brought you to Booz Allen?

It was important to me to grow my career and make an impact, so I left a large Department of Defense contractor to work for Booz Allen. It was an opportunity to receive constructive feedback that I could turn into action, get support from my team and leadership, and have the opportunity to work shoulder-to-shoulder with the client to implement change. The strength of Booz Allen is in its people. It shows in their investment in your career, your goals, and your growth. I always envisioned being part of a highly collaborative organization—one that builds on each other’s expertise so that innovation is realized faster. I found that at Booz Allen.

2.  How did you get started in your field?

My dad once told me, “the future is in software.” I took his wisdom to heart when I enrolled in my first computer science class in my junior year of high school. I went on to get my bachelor’s in computer science and my master’s in architecture-based enterprise systems engineering. Taking my dad’s advice was one of the most impactful decisions of my life because the future is digital and software is at its core.

3What’s your team like in Fayetteville, North Carolina?

I work with a group of experts who share the same mission focus and interest in digital technology. They have a winning attitude and strong work ethic, but also know how to keep a high-paced, demanding environment light and fun. The team doesn’t have egos and people are always willing to learn by lending a helping hand.

4What do you like best about your job?

What gets me up every day is the mission: knowing that I am part of something bigger and that my contributions have an impact. I get to work on the same technologies they work with in Palo Alto, in a fast-paced environment, with a global reach. I’m not just making sure your credit card information is taken securely or that your food gets to your house quickly. At Booz Allen, I’m making sure our soldiers are safe by providing with timely and accurate information, and the tools they need to protect our country.
