There are many different disciplines within the intelligence analysis field under the department of defense, which is why cleared recruiters must become an expert in the subject that they are recruiting for.

Whether you are sourcing for open-source (OSINT), signals (SIGINT), geospatial (GEOINT), human (HUMINT), or one of the many other types of intelligence analysts, you as a DoD program staffer need to understand the tools, processes, methodologies, and areas of interest for each.

INTELLIGENCE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

Intelligence analysts study intelligence data collected from different sources that could be online, on maps, through electronic signals, or through human interviews. These data points can be things like social relationships, locations, history, or statistics to help them make an assessment and provide that analysis to leaders high-stakes situations. Intelligence analysts are critical to national security, so interview questions are VERY SPECIFIC to the program you are recruiting for.

But, here is a list of general intelligence analysis interview questions you can ask your cleared candidates to ensure that they meet some of the overall requirements of a DoD contract.

  1. For an all-source intelligence analyst: Out of all the different intelligence disciplines, is there one that you prefer and why?
  2. How would you describe your intelligence analysis work style?
  3. While perusing your different online media, do you have language translation capabilities or experience?
  4. What are the various intelligence tools you are familiar with?
  5. What intelligence collection tools are you comfortable working in?
  6. Do you have access or experience in classified networks or strictly open-sources?
  7. What intelligence databases do you have knowledge of / are comfortable working in?
  8. Have you previously deployed? Are you open to deploying on a rotational basis?
  9. What areas of responsibility (AOR) do you have knowledge of?
  10. Do you have experience in writing intelligence assessments and briefing senior level leadership? Do you enjoy writing assessments or hate it?
  11. What are you hoping to do after working as an analyst?
  12. Do you have an active security clearance?

Your questions will probably change depending on what the specific role is (all-source analyst, targeter, intelligence support specialist, etc.) and what the minimum requirements are outlined in the Statement of Work for your specific program, but these are good for cleared recruiters to familiarize themselves with!
