Dessamba Diop spent 20 years serving in the U.S. Navy. When he retired from active service, it was important to him that his next career be just as rewarding. He met George Bernloehr, a member of our Veteran Recruiting Center of Excellence, at a job fair and the two hit it off.

“I talked to many recruiters that day and it felt like they didn’t ‘get me’ until I talked to George. He showed me the connection between my career in the Navy and what I could do at Booz Allen,” says Dessamba.

Dessamba left the Navy and started with Booz Allen four days later. He’s one of more than 6,500 veterans, reservists, and military spouses who have found a home—and a career—at Booz Allen.

Why do so many exceptionally skilled candidates choose Booz Allen? Here are five top reasons:

1: Continuing the mission.

For many veterans, commitment to country doesn’t end when they exit the service. Our ongoing work with the Department of Defense (DoD) and Armed Forces is a way for veterans to continue serving their country. “It’s helped ease the transition to a new career,” says Dessamba.

2: New opportunities.

“We don’t force our military candidates into one career path,” says George. “We hire based on skills, and then work with candidates to find the career they want. If it’s working with the DoD or Armed Forces, great, but if they want to try something else—those doors are open too.”

3: Flexibility and benefits.

Major Danna Alberts wasn’t a reservist when she joined us, but after a few years out of the Air Force she realized how much she missed it. She talked to her career manager about joining the Air Force Reserves, prepared to hear concern. Instead, “I got nothing but support,” she says. We also offer benefits to reservists that many companies don’t—like differential pay for up to six months, and continuing health and retirement benefits for the duration of an employee’s active duty assignment.

4: Commitment to military spouses’ careers.

Through the Military Spouse Forum, we offer networking, career training, and a valuable knowledge base to help employees facing relocation with a military spouse. Regina Irwin, a Booz Allen project manager working with the Army, has moved four times with her military spouse while employed at the firm. “Leadership has been instrumental in affording me the flexibility I’ve needed during these transitions, while still enabling me to grow my career, take on new roles, and thrive.”

5: Cultural understanding, not culture clash.

With so many military and veteran employees there’s an immediate connection and appreciation of the skills and experiences of our military and veterans. “My service is understood and appreciated at Booz Allen,” says Dessamba. “When you’ve given so many years of your life to something, that’s important.”

If you’re a veteran, reservist, or military spouse, join us. The world can’t wait.
